More about this list

Where can someone take a chess course outside a club? The Volkshochschule Gütersloh runs an evening beginners’ course over five Tuesdays and a follow-up course on strategy, and the VHS Bielefeld holds an introductory course on Wednesdays at the Begegnungszentrum Bültmannshof, which filled up and keeps a waiting list. Both charge a course fee and need booking in advance.

The SchachAkademie Paderborn trains young players and also fields a team in the league. In Bielefeld the Russian-language Kaleidoskop school runs a chess club for beginners from the age of six on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Clubs teach too: their youth training is listed on the club entries.
