Which tournaments are open to players from outside a club? The Schloss-Open in Werther is the long-running spring open of the area, organised by the Schachklub Werther and rated by FIDE; its latest edition was fully booked. Between Christmas and New Year the Paderborner Schachtürken-Cup brings together an open, a Chess & Culture section and a youth tournament at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum.

The Teutopokal is a monthly FIDE-rated series hosted in turn by clubs of the Bielefeld district, with an overall ranking and a final in Halle. For a shorter evening, Chess Night Bielefeld runs ticketed blitz cups for beginners, advanced and strong players in a Bielefeld bar on the fourth Sunday of the month and in a Paderborn bar on the second Monday. Club championships are shown on the club entries.
